Charife

Halifax, NS

After last year’s epic performance in the Yurt, he once again takes to the masses on the synergy stage.  Labeled Halifax’s first rave DJ to break open and play across the country, gaining international recognition for his production, performance and energy behind the desks.  charife has shared the stage with such international names as Christopher Lawrence, Commander Tom, the Advent, John Kelly, John Aquaviva, Tall Paul, to name just a few!!!

His DJ story is quite unique!!!  It goes back to the spring of 1991 when we suffered from a serious car accident near Antigonish, NS.  While in hospital, he had a dream playing his electronic dance music on stage!  People were dancing and lights were flashing…  While recovering from his injuries, he started pulling together DJ gear and connected with the Secret Music Club in the UK that offered test pressings of the sound that propelled him into the DJ spotlight. His first rave was Jan 1, 1992, where his good friend Joe MacEachern (founder of Evolve) attended.  He had stated in 2011 “if it wasn’t for your musical influence over the years, evolve might not have happened…”

charife’s combinations of hard pounding beats, with funky rhymes and angelic sweeps produces a musical journey of epic proportions.  Flawless mixing and the ability to read a crowd gained popularity in Antigonish, Charlottetown, PEI and New Brunswick.  In 1998, he decided to make the move to Halifax and connected with the Halifax legend Murray Trider (Goodvibe Collective & the Playground) It wasn’t long before people took notice of this DJ as he started playing countless events in Halifax, building a strong progressive following around his new sound.  In 1999, he made his mark by competing in the DJO’s coming 1st in the house techno, trance category. After this exposure, he began headlining shows in Atlantic Canada, and then across Canada playing Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver.  Soon interest was growing in the US in Chicago and Detroit as well as Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; there seemed to be no stopping this DJ/Producers, but in 2001, he made a choice to leave the electronic music scene for personal reasons, but kept in the touch with many of his close DJ/Producer friends and acquaintances.

Now back producing, mixing, and mentoring new producers/DJ’s, he is now working with the East Coast Music Association(ECMA’s) to bring national awareness to East Coast Electronic Musicians.  charife, bring good energy, positive vibes, and experience to a culture he has been involved since its beginning. His new progressive tech house sound will take you on a journey like no other…
