Lineup 2015

Kate & Rich

Windsor, ON / Halifax, NS

Kate & Rich are a pair of Windsor, Ontario musicians based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They have been touring their high energy
Ragtime, Balfolk & Klezmer act since their first bicycle tour in 2012. The kooky duo are favourites in Ontario and the Maritimes; recently branching out to Manitoba and soon British Columbia. They tour by bicycle as much as possible, cycling thousands of kilometers a year. Both versatile players, Kate & Rich are equally as comfortable performing in lamplit living rooms as they are playing under live art projections on festival stages. The duo makes a point of integrating their unique skills into unusual projects, collaborating with other artists and organizations whenever they see an opportunity. This spring, Kate & Rich shared their skills with at-risk youth in Northern Ontario communities through ArtsCan Circle, Jumblies Theatre, and on their own. They accompanied Jumblies on their Train of Thought tour, delivering community arts workshops from Winnipeg to Halifax. On top of it all, they have mapped out an interfestival bicycle tour of the Maritimes, open to
anyone who wants to join this summer (www.bicyclejamband.com).

Kate & Rich will reel you in with their animated stage presence and playful crowd engagement, and then blow you away with the fullband New Orleans Klezmer Dance Party sound that comes out of their two instruments. In addition to their musical act on accordion and clarinet, Kate Romain is a puppeteer and mixed media artist and Richard Driedger is a filmmaking scientist.
